Every design we create has a story, often involving chance or failures that turn into successes. The Green House is one such example. Initially, we needed to build something new on the RAG site to meet the budget, ideally maximizing living space on a small plot. However, the first buyers didn’t like the new homes being placed in front of them, so we scrapped those plans for something better.

The new plan features two Green Houses inspired by the RAG building, offering first-floor living with south-facing rooftop terraces. These homes are large, green, sunny, and modern. To maintain views from the RAG terraces, the new houses are set into the ground, creating a split-level design. This design places the terrace a meter higher than the living areas, visually connecting the kitchen with the outdoor space.

Unlike the RAG building, which has ten units, the Green House is a standalone single-family home. We chose green materials to contrast with the RAG’s yellow brick. The design mirrors the RAG’s rooftop terraces and uses a concrete construction system with prefab components for an industrial look. Windows are strategically placed to maximize light and views while ensuring privacy. The use of concrete, wood, and glass, along with a central stairwell, results in a functional and adaptable floor plan.
